Intensive Livestock Operation

Intensive Livestock OperationsIntensive Livestock Operation (ILO) is defined as the rearing, sustaining, finishing or breeding by means other than grazing of more than 100 animal units of livestock or where the space per animal is less than 4000 square feet.

Discretionary use development permit applications are to be completed for new and expanding intensive livestock operations or if an existing operation changes animal species.

Contact with the Ministry of Agriculture is required and servicing agreements for road maintenance will be required as part of permit approval. The Ministry of Agriculture will review and make recommendations on waste storage, nutrient and mortality management.

Public notice to neighbouring landowners and a public hearing is also a step in this development process.
